About Us

Sam Walsh was raised in the water. Growing up in South Florida and Maryland, Sam had access to breathtaking bodies of water. He could usually be found fishing the mangroves in the Florida Keys or exploring tributaries in the Chesapeake bay.  But it was crabbing the South River together with his brother and a local waterman that helped solidify Sam's passion for the outdoors. This passion and love for the environment led him to pursue a career in marine biology. 

Sam received his bachelors from the University of Miami and spent the next  few years farming all sorts of aquatic animals in cutting edge facilities around the world. From shrimp to tripletail &  everything in-between, Sam was producing some of the world’s finest & most sustainable seafood. After a few years of fish farming  he went back to school to earn his Master's degree in Fisheries, Aquaculture and Aquatic Sciences from Auburn University. While conducting his research on sustainable shrimp feeds, Sam was introduced to the world of oyster farming. Animals that he didn't need to feed! After learning more about the environmental and economic benefits of oyster farming, Sam felt that he found his calling. It was time to use the combined 10 years of experience in the aquaculture field to craft something of his own.  SharkBite Oysters was born.  

After his graduation in the spring of 2022, Sam and his partner Hannah  packed up and moved to New Smyrna Beach, FL to start the farm. The pristine waters of the Indian River Lagoon are a daily reminder to the SharkBite team of the vision and mission that the company was founded on. We take pride not only in creating the best oysters money can buy, but also in creating a prime habitat for other native species, improving water quality, and sequestering nitrogen and carbon.
